Da Nang has a dry season from about February to August and a wet season from September to December, with the heaviest rain and the highest storm risk in October and November. February to May is the most comfortable time for a day out: warm, fairly dry and not yet at full summer heat.
June to August is dry but hot, with daytime highs around 33°C, so outdoor sightseeing works best before 11:00. December and January are the coolest months, with highs around 24°C and frequent drizzle.
Planned around the weather, not a timetable
Our guides reorder the day when rain or heat moves in, and the Marble Mountains caves stay dry inside.

The table below uses long-term averages. Individual years vary, and a single storm can change a week, but the pattern is steady: dry and bright in the first half of the year, wet and grey in the last third.
| Month | Typical high | Rain | What it means for a day out |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 24°C | Moderate | Cool, often overcast, light rain on and off |
| February | 25°C | Low | Dry season begins; pleasant for walking and climbing |
| March | 27°C | Low | One of the best months for sightseeing |
| April | 30°C | Low | Among the driest months; warm by late morning |
| May | 32°C | Low to moderate | Hot; start early, short afternoon showers possible |
| June | 33°C | Low | Hottest stretch; stone steps are hard work after 11:00 |
| July | 33°C | Low to moderate | Hot and bright; busy domestic holiday season |
| August | 32°C | Moderate | Still hot; rain starts to build late in the month |
| September | 30°C | Heavy | Wet season begins; storms possible |
| October | 28°C | Very heavy | Wettest and stormiest stretch; flooding in low areas |
| November | 26°C | Very heavy | Heavy rain continues; days of steady rain are common |
| December | 24°C | Heavy | Cooler; rain easing towards the end of the month |
Temperatures are average daily highs from Climate-Data.org, rounded; the rain column is relative, because published monthly totals for Da Nang vary widely between sources. All sources agree that October and November are the wettest months.
When is the best time to visit Da Nang?
For sightseeing, February to May is the best time to visit Da Nang. Rain is at its lowest, the sea is calm and the heat is manageable if you start early. March and April are the safest bets for a clear sky.
For a beach holiday, June to August is dry and the sea is at its warmest, but the midday heat makes hill climbs and long walks tiring. Plan anything with stairs for the early morning.
How does the weather affect the Marble Mountains?
Three things change with the season. The beams of light in Huyen Khong cave need direct sun, so they are most reliable from February to August and least reliable from October to January. The marble steps are worn smooth and turn slippery when wet, which matters most from September to December. And the elevator on Thuy Son can close during heavy storms.
The caves themselves stay dry, so a light shower does not spoil a visit. On storm days our guides reorder the stops around the weather, starting with whatever is sheltered.
Before you go, the Marble Mountains tickets and opening hours explain which parts of the hill are covered by which ticket, and the complete Marble Mountain guide covers what to see once you are there.
What about Hoi An and Son Tra in the rainy season?
Hoi An old town sits beside the Thu Bon river, and in October and November the riverside streets can flood after heavy rain, sometimes for a day or two. Boat trips on the river are often cancelled while the water is high.
On the Son Tra peninsula, strong wind and rain make the hill roads and the Lady Buddha terrace unpleasant rather than impossible. On storm days, local authorities can close roads and attractions at short notice, and plans have to follow.
What should you pack for each season?
From February to August: sun hat, sunscreen, a refillable water bottle and light clothes that still cover shoulders and knees for the pagodas. From September to January: a light rain jacket, shoes with good grip for wet stone, and a layer for the cooler mornings of December and January.
