How Long Do You Need At The Marble Mountains?

Most visitors need two to two and a half hours for the main loop on Thuy Son: the pagodas, Huyen Khong and the other caves, and one viewpoint. Add about 30 minutes for Am Phu cave and another 30 for a stone-carving yard in Non Nuoc village.

One hour is enough for a short visit to Tam Thai pagoda and Huyen Khong cave from Gate 1. Three hours or more lets you add every viewpoint and the steep climb to the summit without hurrying.

What fits into one, two or three hours?

TimeWhat you can seeStart from
1 hourTam Thai pagoda, Hoa Nghiem and Huyen Khong caves, back down the same stepsGate 1
2 to 2.5 hoursThe main loop: Xa Loi tower, Linh Ung pagoda, Tang Chon, Van Thong, Tam Thai, Huyen Khong, one viewpointGate 2, by elevator
3 hoursThe main loop plus Am Phu cave and both viewpointsGate 2
3.5 hours or moreAll of the above plus a Non Nuoc carving yard or the summit climbGate 2

The route for the two-hour loop is laid out stop by stop in the Marble Mountains itinerary.

How long does each part take?

Huyen Khong cave deserves 30 to 40 minutes, including the walk through Hoa Nghiem; it is the part most visitors wish they had more time for. Linh Ung pagoda and Tang Chon cave take about 30 minutes together, Van Thong about 20 if you climb the chimney, and each viewpoint 10 minutes.

Am Phu cave, at the foot of the hill, takes about 30 minutes. A carving yard in Non Nuoc, where you watch the work rather than browse a showroom, takes 20 to 30 minutes.

What makes a visit take longer than planned?

Three things. The heat, which slows everyone down on the stairways after about 10:30. Queues for the elevator when coach groups arrive together. And the light in Huyen Khong: once visitors see it, they stay.

With older travellers or young children, add half again to every figure above, or cut the loop; the guide for limited mobility suggests a shorter version.

Can you combine the Marble Mountains with other sights in one day?

Yes, easily. Because Thuy Son takes a morning, it pairs with the Lady Buddha on Son Tra before it, which takes about 40 minutes, and with Hoi An after it, about 20 km south. A full day covering all three runs to about ten hours with lunch.

Honest noteYou can see the heart of the Marble Mountains in an hour, and plenty of people do. The time estimates above are for seeing it well rather than for seeing it at all; if you are short of time, the one-hour version from Gate 1 is not a waste.

Want the time planned for you?

Our half day allows the full loop on Thuy Son, and the full day adds Hoi An without rushing either.

How long at the Marble Mountains: quick answers

How long does it take to climb the Marble Mountains?

The climb itself takes 10 to 15 minutes up either stairway. Seeing the pagodas and caves on Thuy Son takes two to two and a half hours in total.

Is one hour enough for the Marble Mountains?

One hour is enough for Tam Thai pagoda and Huyen Khong cave from Gate 1. It is not enough for the full loop or for Am Phu cave.

How long does Huyen Khong cave take?

About 30 to 40 minutes, including Hoa Nghiem cave on the way in. Stay longer if you arrive while sunlight is falling through the roof.

Can you do the Marble Mountains and Hoi An in one day?

Yes. The Marble Mountains take a morning and Hoi An is about 20 km south, so a full day covers both comfortably, ideally ending in Hoi An at dusk.
