The Marble Mountains are not wheelchair accessible beyond the foot of the hill. The elevator at Gate 2 lifts visitors to the terrace by the Xa Loi tower, but every cave, the pagodas and the viewpoints are reached by stone steps, and there are no ramps.
For older travellers who can manage some steps at their own pace, a gentler visit works well: elevator up, the Xa Loi terrace, a flight down to Linh Ung pagoda and the cave behind it, then back down by elevator. That is about an hour and a fraction of the full climb.

If you are planning for someone who uses a wheelchair or cannot manage stairs, the straight answer is no. Thuy Son is a marble hill reached by two stone stairways of 108 and 156 steps, and the caves inside it have uneven floors and more steps.
The elevator is the only help, and it only covers the 108-step east stairway. We cannot promise step-free access anywhere on the hill itself, so we would rather say so here than on the day.
What can older travellers see with the fewest steps?
| Stop | Steps involved | Worth it? |
|---|---|---|
| Elevator from Gate 2 | None on the ride itself | Yes: saves the whole east stairway |
| Xa Loi tower and deer garden | Few, on the elevator level | Yes: the tallest structure on the hill |
| Linh Ung pagoda | One flight down from the tower | Yes: sea-facing pagoda and white seated Buddha |
| Tang Chon cave | A short climb behind the pagoda | Often manageable, with care |
| Huyen Khong cave | Many steps across the hill and down into the cave | Only for those comfortable on stairs |
The full route is in the Marble Mountains itinerary; the stops above are its gentlest part.
How do you plan the day around it?
Go early, when the air is cool and the stairways are quiet. Take the elevator both ways, which means buying two rides. Build in a rest at Linh Ung pagoda, where there is shade and somewhere to sit, and let the fittest members of the group go on to Huyen Khong while the others wait.
Wear shoes with grip, because the marble steps are worn smooth. The day is easier with a car waiting at the gate than with a ride to book afterwards; getting to the Marble Mountains covers the options.
Which nearby sights are easier on the legs?
A working stone-carving yard in Non Nuoc village, at the foot of the mountains, is on flat ground and makes a good second stop. The Lady Buddha at Linh Ung pagoda on Son Tra is reached by car, with a short walk from the car park to the terrace.
Hoi An old town is flat throughout, though the lanes are busy and uneven in places.
Travelling with older parents?

Is there an elevator at the Marble Mountains?
Yes. The elevator at Gate 2 replaces the 108-step east stairway and reaches the terrace by the Xa Loi tower. Each ride is a separate ticket, so up and down is two tickets.
Can a wheelchair user visit the Marble Mountains?
Not beyond the foot of the hill. Every cave, pagoda and viewpoint on Thuy Son is reached by stone steps, and there are no ramps.
How many steps are there at the Marble Mountains?
The two stairways up Thuy Son have 108 steps on the east side and 156 on the west. The caves and viewpoints add more, on uneven stone.
Is the Marble Mountains visit suitable for elderly travellers?
Yes, with a shorter plan: elevator up, the Xa Loi terrace, Linh Ung pagoda and Tang Chon cave, then the elevator down. Allow about an hour and go early.
